Tufts Mock Trial Competes at Nationals for the First Time
JUNE 7, 2010
For the first time in its short history, TMT earned a bid to the 2010 Collegiate Mock Trial Tournament held in Memphis, Tennessee. Although the teamed finished 2-6 in the tournament, the opportunity to compete on the national level is an experience that the team is grateful for, and will attempt to build upon. Tufts Mock Trial hope that this experience will be one that the team can use to catapult further bids to the national tournament, and will utilize the lessons learned to improve for the 2010-2011 season.
LANDMARK PERFORMANCE AT BOSTON ORCS LANDS TMT A SPOT AT THE NATIONAL FINALS!
MARCH 28, 2010
This past weekend, Team 1406, competing at the Boston Opening Round Championship Series (ORCS) shattered all past TMT records, going 7-1 and placing second in the tournament. The performance earned TMT a bid to the National Finals which will take the team back to Memphis, TN. The National Finals are set to take place from April 16-18th. This win marks what has been TMT's most successful season in its short history and a record of continual improvement every year. The team, led by Co-President Rebekah Sokol '10 and Jon Lautin '11, competed against some of the strongest teams in the country. TMT achieved their 7-1 record against Yale A, Dartmouth A, Harvard B, and Colby. The point differential on the single lost ballot to Yale in the first round was a single point!
Nicholas LoCastro '12 turned in a phenomenal performance as Dr. Loren Charney, earning himself an Outstanding Witness Award and the distinction of being the only witness at the tournament to achieve 20/20 ranks. LoCastro's award continues TMT's tradition of winning at least one witness award with 20/20 ranks. Last year, Co-President Jim Wright '09 and Jennifer Perlmutter '11 accomplished the same feat at the Memphis ORCS. Also turning in strong performances were Sammy Sazer as an attorney on Prosecution and Defense, Eric Garcia for his portrayal of the flamboyant Alex Grace and the tremendously successful hostile witness Shannon Stark. Suzanne Schlossberg '12 turned in a phenomenal performance of Adrian Malone, the slick car salesman; Robyn Lindenberg '11 played an outstanding Jackie Owens; Tomas Garcia '12 showcased his first rate acting skills as Detective Finch; and Anisha Gandhi '11 also played an excellent, quirky Hunter Baxamusa. Rebekah Sokol continued her dominance of defense closing arguments and further asserted her love for the velcro demonstrative while Jon Lautin turned in a similarly strong performance during the defense's opening statement. Alex Baskin '13 demonstrated his phenomenal math skills as the team's timekeeper while gaining valuable insight into competing at such a high level.
More information on Tufts Mock Trial's historic performance at the Boston ORCS can be found in the 3/29/10 edition of the Tufts Daily.
